Where is summer? I ask myself the question every day I look out of the window but I have high hopes that it really is on its way especially as on August 28th I am going to have one of my charities fund raising days. I am organising a ‘Zumba In The Park’ event. It will be held at Battyeford Sports Centre, 11.30am to 1.30pm. Rachel of Timestep School of Dance, a qualified Zumba teacher, will be running the dance session starting at 12 noon. Tickets will cost £5 to join in the dance and will be available from Mick’s fruit and veg. in the Town centre.
As you will have read in the papers, my two chosen charities are Matrix, an excellent local charity that is badly in need of funds. This charity aims to get our young people off the streets by providing them with a place to go and activities to do. My other charity is Duke of Edinburgh, based at Shepley Marina and providing a host of valuable activities for both our able and disabled youngsters throughout the year.
The charity Christmas cards, designed by our local school children, will be launched at the Mirfield Show on the 21st August and cost £2.50 for 6. Please give your support; I look forward to seeing you all at the Mayor’s Charity Stall where there will also be tombola.
Finally, remember that on the 4th September it is the Civic Sunday Service. The Service will be held at the Salvation Army, starting at 4pm. This is a time to celebrate Mirfield and its people. There will be a complimentary buffet following the service. All are welcome. Anyone wishing to donate to my charities should make cheques payable to The Mayor’s Charity Account, c/o the Town Council, Huddersfield Road.
